Our research deals with the geodynamic and structural evolution of the polar regions. The applied methods allow quantifying exhumation and denudation rates through time and space, offering clues to surface processes and geomorphic evolution. This in turn provides a better understanding of the coupling between processes of the upper crust with deep-seated processes in the lithosphere, and with the climatic evolution.
Working Area
Continental and adjacent marine areas of Antarctica, and formerly adjacent regions of the Gondwana supercontinent (southern Africa, Madagascar, and India); Arctics: Svalbard, Greenland, and canada; European Alps and Circum-Alpine Basins, East African Rift System, Donets basin (Ukraine), Northeast-German lowlands.
Methods
Fission Track and (U-Th)He Analysis of apatite and zircon, analysis of cosmogenic nuclides, petrology, geochemistry, isotopegeochemistry, cryomicrothermometric analysis of fluid inclusions in minerals.
